The space
The convenience of a B&B, the privacy of a holiday let. The Hay Store is cosy, private and stylish with a firm king sized bed, day bed (which converts to a single bed), shower en-suite, kitchen-in-a-cupboard and table and chairs for three. The Hay Store has a private outlook on to a cobbled courtyard and its own front door. Ideal for the carless Londoner, Amberley is just 1hr 20 mins on a direct train service from London Victoria. The Hay Store is then just a 5 minute walk from Amberley train station.
Guest access
In addition to The Hay Store, guests have exclusive use of the cobbled courtyard and shared use of the driveway for parking.
Interaction with guests
The Hay Store is designed to be private and I hope to have provided everything guests need to be self sufficient during their stay. This includes plenty of food and all you need to prepare breakfast. So I look forward to saying hello on your arrival, but will otherwise leave you to make yourselves at home. Of course, if there is anything you need, you are welcome to find me and my family at the main house, or at the end of a mobile phone.
The neighbourhood
Amberley is a picturesque English village situated on the River Arun in the South Downs National Park. Characterised by many thatched cottages, nestled behind its 11th century castle. Amberley is not only pretty but also well served by an excellent community shop, new play park, tea rooms and pubs both in the village and on the riverfront. Various events are organised by the Amberley community each year, including Ale at Amberley, Creative Amberley and Gardens Open. Nearby is Goodwood racecourse, the Pulborough Brooks RSPB nature reserve, Parham House historic manor and the beautiful market town of Arundel, with its castle, Swanbourne Lake and many visitor attractions.
Getting around
The Hay Store is situated directly on the South Downs Way, so open the gate and explore fantastic walks in all directions.
The Hay Store is approximately 5 minutes walk to Amberley train station, which provides direct services to London and Gatwick, or to Brighton and Portsmouth via Ford.
Compass bus route 73 operates between Ashington and Pulborough, via Storrington, Amberley and Coldwaltham.
Amberley is less than 8 miles from the south coast, with lovely beaches - particularly the sandy dunes at West Wittering. Littlehampton makes a great day trip by train, with plenty to do on the prom, lovely shallows and great food at the Heatherwick designed East Beach Cafe.
Arundel makes a fantastic day trip on foot via the river bank (an hour and a half), by train or by car (10mins).
Other things to note
Children and babies are very welcome! The day bed converts to a comfy single bed and a travel cot is also provided. A high chair and children's tableware and cutlery are also available.
